Yet, some Yankee announcers, particularly John Sterling, continue to describe the Yankee Stadium home games as packed houses. Why lie to the viewer or listener when it is as plain as day that this isn't the case. Yankee Stadium has taken on the look of the Coliseums, with the emperors and the rich of Roman times getting the best seats and the commoners having to sit on those stone slabs.
Worse than the lying is the reality of the situation. Yankee Stadium, from the TV viewers standpoint, looks like the ninth inning of a spring training game. The empty seats are just a terrible backdrop when watching the game. Its also an indictment on society today of the haves and have-nots. The rich and the middle class. And because it takes place in New York, the financial capital of the world and home to Wall Street, it makes our city look bad.
