This afternoon, though not nearly as exciting as Billy's use of his imagination back then, I took part in my first Baseball Fantasy League draft in 23 years. A lot of changed since back in 1989. For one thing, there was no use of a white board and markers. From the comfort of my family room, with my brother Mike as my co-owner, we remotely drafted 28 players to make up our team via a CBS website. Our team, The Shermanators, will go up against 9 other teams.
There are 14 categories that a team gets points for, seven for the offense and seven for the pitchers. I think the Shermanators did well. We've got Roy Halladay and CJ Wilson as starting pitchers. Jose Reyes, Coco Crisp, and Lorenzo Cain to steal some bases. Evan Longoria, Dan Uggla, Chipper Jones, and Carl Crawford to drive in some runs. And, where I think we really cleaned up, Mariano Rivera, Joel Hanrahan, and Heath Bell to close out games.
We'll see how this goes, but if the season is half the fun that the draft was, it may be something I do annually. I'll let you know how it goes.
