I have been writing on this blog how they desperately need to pick up a bat to take the pressure off of their pitching staff which eventually faded last August after an almost parallel start to what we are seeing again this season.
The Cubs, again, are terrible, and are in desperate need of pitching. The Pirates, with a strong farm system and an abundance of quality pitchers, should put together a deal for Chicago first baseman Bryan LaHair. He is more reasonably-priced contract-wise than the Red Sox Kevin Youkilis and has better numbers than Padres first sacker Chase Headley.
LaHair's numbers: 12 HR, 25 RBIs, .310 BA, and .589 Slugging Pct.
Those numbers would lead the Pirates in homeruns and slugging percentage.
Garrett Jones and Matt Hague, Pittsburgh's current first basemen, just aren't getting the job done.
Getting LaHair would solidify the Pirates are contenders in the weak NL Central.
