No team ever looked more over-matched than the Yankees after getting blown away in every facet of the first two games of the 1996 World Series by the then-defending champion Atlanta Braves. They were headed down to Atlanta like lambs being led to slaughter, having to face a trio of future Hall of Fame pitchers.
There was no question they were going to lose the World Series. The only question was if they could somehow avoid getting swept.
Five nights later, after four straight YANKEE wins, New York was doing a victory lap around Yankee Stadium while Wade Boggs triumphantly rode a police horse. The Canyon of Heroes parade followed a couple of days later.
Baseball is a funny game and highly unpredictable.
