Blass was an All Star pitcher and World Series hero when, at the prime of his career, inexplicably lost his control and was out of the game two years later. Hence, the term "Steve Blass Disease" became a part of the American lexicon for a ballplayer who suddenly loses his control in throwing a baseball.
While Steve Blass Disease is obviously a major part of Blass' story, it is hardly the entire book. The former Pirate pitcher takes readers into the clubhouse of one of the most colorful teams baseball has ever known. There are plenty of new anecdotes about, among others, the great Roberto Clemente, and the most in-depth chapter ever written about Game 7 of the 1971 World Series, one of the greatest post-season games of all-time, in which Blass pitched.
There will also be time for a Q and A following the reading.
