This is a throwback to the days when kids would bring their transistor radios to school and rush home to watch the baseball playoffs. There is more television revenue in prime time, but perhaps baseball is finally seeing the light and thinking longer term. Today's young fans (and older ones) have a hard time staying up until midnight to watch the end of championship games. Now with this postseason schedule, they won't have to for at least some of the games.
MLB is losing young fans to the NBA and NFL in droves because they are not able to watch the playoffs or World Series in their entirety. Games are interminable, especially in the playoffs with managers changing pitchers to get just the right match-ups from, oh, the sixth inning on.
This is a good start. Let's hope they'll consider doing the same with the World Series.
