Perhaps next year, Jack Morris, the pitcher who opposing teams wanted to see the least in a big game, will finally get the nod he deserves.
And, in 2013, Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine, both 300-plus game winners, will be enshrined.
They will be the last of another breed--the 300 game winner.
Look for a slew of pitchers over the next few years to be voted in (Pedro Martinez, Randy Johnson, Curt Schilling), not just because of their greatness, but also because of the distaste for the sluggers that played in the steroid era. Imagine a 3,000 hit/500 homerun guy (Palmiero), a three-time 60 homer slugger (Sosa) and, biggest of all, the homerun champ (Bonds) not get in (at least not initally for Barry).
Well, get used to it.
It is going to be a new kind of "Age of the Pitcher."
